10th Grade College Counseling Calendar

Fall

o Continue to earn good grades.

o Review the high school curriculum requirements and the profiles of admitted students for each of the colleges you are interested in attending.

o Update your file (see 9th grade calendar), or start one if you have not already.

o Continue to update your portfolio in COIN 3.

o Update your 4-year plan, based on your COIN 3 portfolio.

o Continue extracurricular activities (admissions officers look at students' extracurricular activities when considering them for admission).

o Take the PSAT in October. It is valuable practice for when you retake the PSAT again in your junior year (when the scores will count for National Merit consideration.) It is also great practice for the SAT Reasoning test you will take in the Spring of your junior year.

o Attend the Grossmont Union High School District’s college and career night – “Got Plans”.

o Take the PLAN test (pre-test to the ACT). This is usually given in the month of November during the school day.

Spring

o Take a SAT Subject test in June, when you complete a course that covers the curriculum being tested. Be sure to register early!

Summer

o If you received a D or an F in a class, you need to repeat it in summer school if you are applying to a 4 year college. This will improve your GPA as well as maintain your eligibility for college!
